The book, Tracking Trash, was all about trash in the oceans. It talk about everything from the Garbage Patch in the Pacific Ocean, to Benjamin Franklin! I thought it was an interesting book, and I kind of enjoyed reading it. However, I though Sugar Changed The World was better, even though I didn't read it! Just going off of other people's presentation on Sugar Changed The World, I could tell it was extremely interesting. It made Tracking Trash seem boring! The presentations on Sugar Changed The World went into deep detail about how sugar really did change the world, and it was very fascinating! Normally I would have fallen asleep if I had to listen to people present PowerPoints for a whole hour, but I was wide awake for the entire hour!
Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed the field trip to the Huntington Library. Personally, I thought the tour was very boring, but I still enjoyed seeing all the art. We saw many silk tapestries in one of the rooms. Most of them were faded, and our tour guide explained that it was because it was made of silk. She explained how silk tapestries fade, and how they were worth almost as much as the whole library. I thought that was a shocker! I was wondering why the Huntingtons would spend that much money on a few tapestries. We also saw portraits of the Huntingtons themselves! Some paintings that I remembered well were the Blue Boy and Pinkie paintings. My favorite parts of the Library were the Red Car coffee shop and the gardens. I had a great time with Brian and Antonio during the whole field trip. In the Japanese garden, Antonio was singing the Barbie Girl song. Brian and I tried to drown out Antonio’s singing by saying the ABCs repeatedly. Soon Antonio gave up, and then he started ranting about the muffin he was savoring. It was all a blast! I even pranked some of the girls in our group! I hid in some bushes, waiting for them to walk by. When they did, I jumped out of the bushes and screamed at them. They screamed even louder in response! It was the highlight of my day! Also in the Japanese garden, I got some bamboo leaves in my Coke without knowing it. When I took another sip of it, I accidentally swallowed some of the leaves! It was disgusting! I was coughing for a full minute! Soon after we left the Japanese garden, we had to go back to the Red Car coffee shop and the gift store to wait for the bus.
